Every week we share a different image on the Essex on Lake Champlain Facebook page and invite our viewers to play some Vintage Essex Trivia. Last week we shared the image above minus the caption and asked what viewers recognized and if they could name the location or date of the photo.  With the caption in place tells us that this is “North Road leaving Essex, NY.”

If followed this road, Lakeshore Road, does lead north to Willsboro, and the buildings do make the spot recognizable. Here is what the community had to say already:

Dianne Lansing: Building of the left is the Community Church. On the right is the most recent home of the Adirondack Art Association.

Kyle Williams: House on the left is the house Alma Richards grew up in and lived with Carl Mather when they married. Then their daughter May Mather lived there.

Also visible but not mentioned above is the Noble Warehouse aka the Masonic Lodge, today home of the Essex Theatre Company. Not visible but what would be right next to it today is the turnoff for the Essex-Charlotte ferry crossing. I think on the right the Essex Library might be a little visible through the trees — what do you think?

The back side of the postcard is below, it doesn’t give much more information, but does tell us this postcard was created for Alexander News in Essex by CW Hughes & Co of Mechanicville, NY — both names that have been associated with other vintage postcards we have shared in the past.
